Motion Control Toyota Commercial

by Craig on 07/02/2013

Our Milo crane was flown to New Zealand to shoot these two Corolla commercials in 2002. In both cases, shots on different locations with the same car are combined to give a seamless rotation around the vehicle. The opening shot of the Corolla LE (silver car) is a steadicam shot which was joined to a motion control shot on the second location. In every case, we had the Milo crane on a low-loader ‘process trailer’, and the car was towed, attached to the trailer in different positions. The shots were matched by playing back the original take frame by frame, and selecting key positions to line up by eye. Once these ‘keyframes’ were stored, the software created the curve between them. The matching process took a couple of hours at the beginning of the day in each location. Each location was a half-day or one day shoot. The backgrounds include Mount Cook, Milford Sound, Christchurch and Akaroa, in New Zealand’s South Island. See our ‘behind the scenes’ video of this shoot, here: www.youtube.com
